SNCFI Graduating Students Embark on Emmaus Retreat Ahead of Commencement

As graduation draws near, moments of reflection often become as important as academic achievement itself. Recognizing this, Santo Nino College Foundation, Inc. (SNCFI) gathered its graduating students for a spiritual retreat at the OND Mission Center in General Santos City from May 15 to 27, 2026, under the theme, “EMMAUS: Finding and Encountering God in My Life.”

Inspired by the biblical journey to Emmaus, the retreat invited students to pause amid the anticipation of graduation and reflect on the experiences, challenges, and lessons that have shaped their personal and academic journeys. More than a requirement preceding commencement exercises, the retreat served as a space for discernment, renewal, and gratitude as participants prepared to transition from student life to new responsibilities beyond the institution.

Throughout the program, students engaged in prayer, recollections, guided reflections, faith-sharing activities, and periods of silence that encouraged deeper self-awareness and spiritual growth. These moments provided opportunities to examine their aspirations, strengthen their relationship with God, and reflect on the values that will guide them as future professionals, leaders, and members of their communities.

The retreat underscores SNCFI’s philosophy of holistic education—one that recognizes learning not merely as the acquisition of knowledge, but as the formation of character, purpose, and moral responsibility. By creating spaces for reflection and faith formation, the institution seeks to nurture graduates who are equipped not only with academic competencies but also with the wisdom and values necessary to navigate an increasingly complex world.

The initiative likewise contributes to the promotion of student well-being and values-centered education, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). Through opportunities for personal reflection, spiritual enrichment, and ethical formation, the retreat reinforces the importance of developing individuals who are resilient, compassionate, and socially responsible.

As they prepare to leave the classroom and enter new chapters of their lives, graduating students were reminded that education extends beyond degrees and credentials. Like the travelers on the road to Emmaus, they are called to continue their journeys with faith, purpose, and a deeper understanding of themselves and the communities they are called to serve.
